The Journey of a Coffee Bean: From Farm to Cup

Have you ever wondered about the journey a ethical sourced coffee bean takes to become your morning cup of coffee? From the farm where it's grown to the moment it reaches your cup, each step in the process plays a crucial role in creating the perfect brew. Let's explore the fascinating journey of a coffee bean.

1. Cultivation: Coffee beans are grown in tropical climates around the world, typically in regions known as the "coffee belt. Farmers carefully cultivate coffee plants, which can take several years to bear fruit. The cherries are hand-picked when they reach peak ripeness.

2. Processing: Once harvested, the coffee cherries undergo processing to remove the beans. It will undergo two different methods as dry & wet.

Dry Processing: Cherries are dried in the sun before the beans are extracted.

Wet Processing: Cherries are pulped, fermented, and washed to remove the beans.

Impact on Flavor: The processing method affects the beans' flavor profile, with dry-processed beans often having fruity notes and wet-processed beans offering cleaner flavors.

3. Roasting: Green coffee beans are roasted to develop their flavors. Beans are heated to high temperatures, causing chemical changes that create the coffee's aroma and taste. Roasting levels can vary from light to dark, influencing the coffee's flavors.

4. Grinding: Roasted beans are ground to the appropriate size for the brewing method. The grind size affects extraction, with finer grinds typically used for espresso and coarser grinds for methods like French Press.

5. Brewing: The final step is brewing, where hot water extracts the flavors from the coffee grounds. Different brewing methods, such as drip, pour-over, and espresso, offer unique flavor experiences.

The journey of a coffee bean begins in the tropical regions of the world, where farmers nurture coffee plants until their cherries ripen to perfection. Harvested by hand at peak ripeness, these cherries undergo meticulous processing—either dried under the sun or pulped and fermented—before being roasted to aromatic perfection.
